Good Morning, Moon

It was about 5:30am when he woke me up to say goodbye. I’ve been trying this whole “morning person” thing for the last few weeks without much success. So it wasn’t really surprising when he called at 6:50 and I was still asleep. The conversation went something like this:

“Are you awake yet?”

“Mmmhmm…”

“Go outside and check out the lunar eclipse!”

“What’s a lunar eclipse? What does it look like?”

“That’s when the Earth’s shadow is on the moon, so it looks like half a moon.”

“Doesn’t the moon look like half a moon every month?”

“This is different. Just go look.”

Reluctantly, and still in zombie mode, I put on a sweatshirt and trudged downstairs. Once outside, I was in awe. As if the sun and the moon rising and falling every day are not enough to make you realize how great the universe is, something about the lunar eclipse puts it into perspective. Knowing that the sun was “behind” me, and the moon in front, and I was in the middle with visual proof just made me stop and stare. Our God is so cool. I’ve never felt so small.
